Age of First Visit
While we certainly welcome patients of all ages to schedule a first visit to Hermanson Orthodontics, the American Association of Orthodontists® recommends that the initial orthodontic evaluation should be performed at the first sign of orthodontic problems or no later than age 7.
While the vast majority of children will not require any treatment at this age, early examination allows for early detection of a developing problem. Early detection allows us to correct some problems more effectively and less invasively at a younger age. When interceptive treatment is not indicated, we can monitor the patient’s dental development on an observation basis so that, if treatment is needed later, it can be started at the appropriate time.
What to Expect
When you arrive, our treatment coordinator will welcome you back to our new patient area where she will acquaint you with the office. Diagnostic digital photographs will be taken, and Dr. Hermanson will complete an exam to determine if orthodontic treatment is indicated. He will provide an explanation of the preliminary findings and discuss the treatment options available to correct any problems that may exist. Any questions you have will be answered by the doctor at this time.
If treatment is indicated, a complete set of orthodontic records consisting of diagnostic photos, digital study models (obtained with iTero® digital scanner), x-rays, and a comprehensive exam will be needed. In some cases, all of the necessary information can be obtained at the initial visit, and we can schedule an appointment to get treatment started. In other cases, a formal consultation appointment may need to be scheduled.
To schedule your first visit, please call us at 641-752-6458 or 800-542-5024. We look forward to your call!
